Ken Burns' recent Prohibition documentary on PBS was very interesting/good.
^In case anyone is left without anything to watch this weekend, now that JR's passionate In Time recommendation isn't looking so good.

50/50 is supposedly awesome.
<- wants to go see it but <- lives at the office right now.
Also worth noting, La Dolce Vita was on Flix last night. <- found this out at work and didn't make it home by 8 to DVR.

Have I ever admitted to being a stupidly big Pearl Jam fan in the 90s, or was this just assumed due to my Gen Xiness?
Random play routinely involves skipping past one of the kagillion live songs on my ipod.
Anyway, haven't seen it!

You can't be a Gen Xer and not have loved PJ (also was a fan).
You do know Pearl Jam 20 by CAMERON CROWE (<-- HUGE GEN X POINTS) premiered on PBS last Friday, RIGHT?!?!

I'd heard about this at some point--maybe someone was on Colbert talking about it or something?--but I can't say I'm that interested.
It's more likely I'll watch the Mark Twain doc they've been running.

^YEP
I scanned the next two weeks worth of PBS programming only to learn that:
1) PJ 20 apparently isn't being replayed.
2) Neither is Prohibition. (BUY THE DVD, MAYBE!)
3) Neither is Mark Twain.
So ends all PBS programming recommendations.

Seriously, WTF.
I've had this problem w/ PBS more than once. They have some amazing shit but it's never easy to track down if you miss the first showing and a ton of people miss the first showing.

The only "grunge" band worth a crap turned out to be STP, and that's because they weren't actually "grunge". Soundgarden was OK at times, although they get big points off for Black Hole Sun being played 17,894,479,122,126,541,346 times in the 90's alone, and for spawning Chris Cornell's other projects *cough*Audioslave*cough*

STP? ^girl
There are now only a few songs from each of the first three PJ albums that don't suffer from the Black Hole Sun effect, so aside from those, the most listenable PJ for me comes from No Code & Yield, which isn't anything sooooooper great, but it's still good, I think.

ONLY a SUPER COOL ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT guy would prefer No Code and Yield.....
(even if they are easily PJ's best work)
<-- went through a fairly long flannel and grunge phase

Grantland is the only entity that would ever try such a thing.
And since ESPN gave them a blank check they probably could afford it.

There are clearly some sideline reporter gals who've established themselves in the field by way of pre-interview seckshul favors.
I like to think Holly Rowe belongs in that group.

So, scheduling conflict on the Ides of March, still want to see it (because Jay Are is such a good actor). And then no midnight show on The Rum Diary. So we saw this ^^^. feh+The good: The premise is interesting, though it is never explained. Most flicks like this will give you at least a haphazard or ham-fisted montage explaining the conceit of the story. Not so here, "It is what it is." <--- direct quote. There could be some interesting implications regarding man's ability to genetically engineer immortality, that are only briefly touched upon here. The idea that physical immortality is attainable, but mental or spiritual immortality is incongruous with the human condition raised my eyebrow. Briefly. Also an ass shot of Seyfried, though under water. Apparently this is no big deal, since she's done more nudity. Here www.celebritymoviearchive.com/tour/name.php/2350Turns out, the female cast of Mean Girls = very bang-able. Shit, I'd even do Gasteyer to get to Fey, Poehler, McAdams, Chabert, Seyfried and Lohan. Yes, Lohan too. Also Olivia Wilde is still hot. The bad: Fuck that thinking noise. Let's kick some ass and make this about rich and poor people. When we left the theater my buddy said they should have renamed this "Occupy Time#" It's just so damn in-your-face: People with little time live in the ghetto, rich people live in different "time zones." Poor people are always hurrying, rich people get to take it easy. Because they can live forever and poor people die all the time!!!%1!!* Yes, screen writers, I realize that if the upper class literally controlled the amount of time that people could live, it would be a terrible, terrible thing. And worthy of some redistribution. Other:Timberlake was kinda blah. I thought he may have potential. Yeah, another "douche" that I don't hate. What's wrong with me?

Keeping with the 90's nostalgia - I had no idea how much I missed Beavis and Butthead. They're still fucking funny, and having them watch and bust on reality tv is a stroke of genius.

My GenX-ness was spent on hip hop and rap. I hated PJ, STP and white people in general...all the while hating white people who were trying to be a part of the black culture (I'm talkin' 'bout you Michael Rappaport...bastard got his hands on the TCQ documentary...i hate him with a Michael Bay-level hate... :spit). When it came to Beavis and Butthead I had no patience for it. None. Thought it looked stupid. Sounded stupid. Smelled stupid. It probably was. That said...ripping on reality TV is absolutely genius.
