I am watching the basketball finals, the first olympic coverage I have watched besides the tv in the cafeteria at work.
Man, international basketball is almost unwatchable. So many fouls.

Many of these sports haven't seen a world record fall in many years. People either blame it on drug cheats of the past (unlikely, since people still cheat now and with better stuff) or people going into other sports instead of the hammer throw. Was there a time when our best athletes were funneled into the hammer throw?
There's always a bit of astonishment, since modern training techniques and nutrition have apparently advanced so much. Perhaps they have when it comes to sprinters. But perhaps people are training using worse programs for many of these events, especially ones that are essentially strength based. That would include most of the field events with the seemingly unbreakable records, plus weight lifting (American weight lifting is notoriously terrible despite all of our exercise "science" expertise), and I'm sure other events I'm missing.
