Seriously though, I think Mangini would have eschewed the pass on 2nd and goal from the 2, probably 3rd and goal from 2 as well.

In Mangini's first game, we had 8 penalties for 66 yards. Today: 11 for 72.
I'm sure that was the difference.

Unfair comparison.
Last season to this season is far more realistic.
And this roster (for the most part) was executing last year.

Seriously, tell me one fucking positive development you saw that was "better" than the Mangini system?

Cam Newton about to top 300 yards passing to go with 3 TDs. Whole quarter left in that one.

Not sure what you're looking for, e0.
Today was shit. I think that's pretty clear to everyone.
You'll have to wait until I've gone back through it for anything more nuanced than that.
(Though, one initial impression is that our ratio of runs to play action passes was pretty F'ing out of whack.)

In keeping with the pertinent theme of the NFL, I'm predicting roughly 75 million waiver claims on him Tuesday morning.

(Though, one initial impression is that our ratio of runs to play action passes was pretty F'ing out of whack.) Nothing really, half being an asshole and half just still sick and tired of this team. Probably another 100% annoyed by optimism when it shouldn't exist. I don't know that Eric Mangini will ever be a SUPER BOWL COACH nor would even MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, but right now what I see is a bullshit team that took a team that was progressing under said coach, fired him for a nobody, drafted "GREAT" then ignored FA. This is supposedly our best "PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION" yet. IMO, we had a process and egos fucked it up, now the process is going to be in danger from the core up. Felt this way before the season and would have even w/ a win today. But to watch that abortion just makes it sting a bit more. Fuck This Franchise.

I think you don't understand that taking steps forward is a big fucking thing.
Two steps back, one forward is maybe okay.
IMO (AND ONLY IMO) this team is seriously at risk of three steps back from approaching mediocrity last year and a huge #1 caliber QB in the draft is the only failsafe.
The risk reward from this off-season is insanely leaning toward the risk.

Not sure what you're looking for, e0. Can't speak for everyone here, but I got pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Disjointed offense with no identity; extreme disregard for the run; non-descript defense with no pass rush and one kwality NFL player. The penalties were a nice touch though, that was a little above and beyond. The Bengals suck. We're looking like we're headed for another 12 to 14 loss season, but that's what I was expecting going into this season anyway. Little to no effort to improve the team this offseason, on either side of the ball; no depth; huge reliance on rookies to be playmakers, and completely new schemes on offense and defense. Throw a Browns jersey on it, and you've got a recipe for total NFL disaster. The schedule is incredibly soft, so they'll squeeze out a couple wins. I don't think Colt will be filming any more Ford commercials come next April, rather he'll be trying on various baseball caps and practicing his sideline play signaling. Oh yeah, next year we'll have another big QB divide to keep the fanbase firing truncated sentence fragments at one another. /serious jayare

In keeping with the pertinent theme of the NFL, I'm predicting roughly 75 million waiver claims on him Tuesday morning. My favorite part of my auction was some cock putting him up for $1 to feel funny and me getting laughed at for grabbing him at $2. Just like I did by grabbing Benson for $5 And Tolbert for $7 And Lynch for $3 (bust). No one understand how to run a fantasy auction. You grab your top of the line studs and surround them w/ starting peeps that could do well for cheap. Load up on those people and a couple of the darts will hit.

1)Can't speak for everyone here, but I got pretty much exactly what I was expecting. 2) Disjointed offense with no identity; extreme disregard for the run; 3) non-descript defense with no pass rush and one kwality NFL player. 4) Oh yeah, next year we'll have another big QB divide to keep the fanbase firing truncated sentence fragments at one another. 1) Honestly, though, how much of that do you think has to do with your feelings on Colt McCoy since before he was a Brown? IMO, he gave us some reasons to hope for more last season. Maybe it'll end up working out for you and you'll be right about him, but if you never moved an inch off of your pre-NFL position on him, that's kind of being a stubborn ass, no? 2) Not true on the extreme disregard for the run. From the 2nd quarter to the AJ Green TD, our pass/run ratio was 24/20. That's pretty even. Those penalties early and then being down late just put us in obvious passing situations. 3) Haden was spectacular, but after rewatching the game Phil Taylor quietly had a really good game too. DQ & Rubin were pretty decent. Sheard had an OK 2nd half. Really, after Sheard & Gocong were gashed early on the right side, the defense was pretty good for most of the day. (I realize it should be when facing a team QBd by Dalton & Gradkowski, but still.) 4) If Colt plays like he did today all season, there will be no QB divide. It wasn't all bad, but far too many WTF-quality plays from him today for my taste, and that's in addition to a couple batted balls, inaccurate throws, and occasionally sketchy pocket presence. After today, I'm really feeling my 7/3-win forked path for this team in 2011. If we keep getting Bad Colt, it's going to be 3, and we're going to draft a franchise QB, and he's going to be The Guy from day 1, whether that's Luck or Barkley or Landry (MFA: +Jones) or someone else.

The core is what matters long term, and the core has improved.

He looked like Braderek Quinderson today. Poor accuracy and a lot of check downs. I don't know what they were learning at Kamp Kolt, but maybe Shurmur should have held onto that playbook and avoided the fine.
