Possibly the most fucked up day of my life and I almost threw my entire life away and joined the marines that day. Had to be talked out of it by my entire family.
That said, this American "holidization" of it is getting to be almost too much to stomach. We're now selling advertising for TV specials for this shit like it is gawd damn sports. Bowing our heads in respect is one thing, but parading around about 3K dead (and I know many who lost their parents) in this manor is just too effing much. We are the luckiest nation in the world in terms of terror attacks and we have decided to make the world have Memorial Day v. 2 on 9/11. It's just too much.
It has become the ultimate definition of American's obsessing over America.
Poor Pearl Harbor Day.

I'm at the point where if you weren't in the building when it was hit, I don't want to hear your story.

It has become the ultimate definition of American's obsessing over America. Cast against daily reminders of how outrageously callous and uncaring people can be towards one another, I think it's more the ultimate display of insincerity.

JR, I think, once you've read it, you'll agree that this story is worthy of an exception.
Some time after 9/11--I won't say how long after, out of respect for the victims of that tragic day--I was on an airplane. I know it wasn't in September, but I'd say there's a better than 3% chance it was on the 11th.
While I was waiting to board the plane, I noticed two suspiciously muslim-garbed gentlemen (at least I think the garb was muslim; it was decidedly ethnic, of that much I'm sure), and naturally, as any hero of my sort would, I kept a close eye on them. One of them ate a soft pretzel. No cheese.
About two hours into the flight is when things really started to get dicey. The passengers were instructed to remain in their seats and buckle themselves in. Every man, woman, and child in that cabin was visibly frightened, for they too had witnessed what I had prior to boarding the plane. Our two "friends" never made it back to coach, so mayyyyyyyybe they were in first class.
Rrrrriiiight.
Three shakes and four bumps later, we knew damn well where they were--in the cockpit wrestling the controls away from the pilots. Emboldened by the passengers Flight 93, however, we the people of the United States of America were determined to keep these terrorists from flying us directly into the Ruan Center of Des Moines, Iowa--a high value target if I've ever seen one. The lives of literally tens of Iowans depended on our decisive and heroic action, so we rapidly came to the unspoken consensus strategy of playing "contain." While the job creators in first class rushed--we assume, since we couldn't see past the curtain--to the pilots' defense, we silently held our ground as any NFL RDE worthy of his multimillion dollar contract would.
A mere few seconds later, control of the plane was restored to the pilots, the shaking and bumping ceased, and we landed in Des Moines a little while later. There, we ate corn.
The End

I was talking with my dad about this last night. I was tired of hearing about 9/11 5 years ago. They should have started construction on a new tower / towers as soon as they got the rubble cleared, instead we have a hole in the ground as a monument to terrorism.
Meh, whatever.

Just the benefit of having so much media, everyone gets their chance, and the line of actors is icredible long and repeating. Every 24/7 news station is non-stop for the weeks leading up, every twitterer thinks that their asking for people to remember 9-11 is unique, and every message board poster has to have their opinion on how its wack or some clever story no one cares about.
I had done a fantastic job avoiding the better part of it, and not participating till I saw this abortion.

Touche and honestly this is the first media I have read on it. I got chills remembering that day then I got chills of anger. Seriously, I fucking hate America. Krugman was a shill to his dick sucking side of the coin when I studied him and he still is. We Fucking Suck.
