I love this pick (Draymond Green) for the Warriors. He was one of my favorite players in the draft. Advanced statistics say he's going to be very good as a tough, versatile player with a high basketball IQ. I think he'll be in the league for a long time. Reminds me a bit of Shane Battier. -- Chad Ford
1) So why was it that everyone seemed to be so sure he was going to Miami in the first round? It seemed like every mock I saw had him slotted there. (Maybe I saw nothing but Ford mocks?)
2) If Green makes it, who'd be the next fattest wing player to have had success in the NBA?

You support drafting 27 year old centers coming off of marine tours? I thought he played pretty well at FSU.

1) I have no idea, and half of the legit hoops fans I read wanted there team to trade for him in the 2nd. Guy was probably the most pined after 2nd round guy of the entire draft.
2) Melo.

And everything related to Baylor basketball not named Quincy Acy (or Ekpe Udoh, I guess!) reeks of suck*.
*-amend to "penis" for women's program.

Also, if you include PG's Fat Raymond Felton (he became massive Raymond Felton) was kinda good for a bit.

When they announced Quincy Q Miller's entire family stood up and started cheering only to hear "Acy" as soon as they started going off.

You see this: And you're all like, "WHOA, Draymond! Did it slip your mind somehow? Tonight's the big night! Get down to the arena and meet Dave once Miami calls your name!" Then he's all like "Hold up man, we ain't bringing nothing up until I diss this girl, man." And you're like, "What?" And he says, "You know I had to diss her! I told her don't mess with me, you know?" "Umm, Draymond?" "Let me tell you how it went anyway..."

Of course, nothing like that could possibility be known now.
That's where the true suspense is.
Couldn't possibility!

So this whole thing has Napolean's grubby fingerprints all over it. Not unlike every dollar that passes through this filthy city. He so desperately craves praise and adoration. He sees the props handed out to management who go against convention and find talent. But actual scouting and research is a lot of work, and casinos take lots of time to run. Plus his kid has a disease. Hey that makes you more likable, right? Family man dealing with the torments of a debilitating ailment to his sweet child? Problem is, nobody knows about it. Gotta get that out to the media somehow. Ok, now nobody will call you a genius for doing sensible things to build a roster. Have to shake things up to get any recognition. And since everybody does dumb things in free agency, and we have a long enough track record of dumb free agent signings to prohibit any further stupid plays for a couple years, lets look elsewhere. Trades? Well we certainly tried, but all of those dumb moves in the past left us with a bunch of guys nobody wants. So all that's left is the draft. If you're gonna be viewed as a basketball savant, you have to make your name in the draft. How can we do that? Reach. So reach we will. Because most draft picks don't pan out. And if you go by the book, the chances for recognition become asymmetrical. If the pick stinks you're an idiot, regardless of whether it was the consensus move at the time. Cause nobody remembers what circumstances were dictating at the time. So you reach. If it doesn't work out, you're still an idiot. But if it works, here come the accolades! Smartest man in the room. Nobody would have taken Tristan Thomas there! But that Dan Gilbert isn't your average basketball genius! He saw something no one else did! Wow! And Dion Waiters, man it took some guts to go there when no one else would. So this is the plan going forward. Because the only thing better than winning is being lauded and adored. And you only have so many chances to garner unending public adulation. God knows you'd better take every opportunity to get it. Every opportunity.

I imagine that if I owned/GM'd a pro sports team, I'd be a little like that too--wanting to win, but also loving the idea of being crowned Smartest Guy in the Room in the process.
I also think it's more interesting as a fan (or hypothetically would be more interesting, I assume) to follow a team that's trying to avoid the herd with a unique approach to team-building.
But when some putz with ESPN appears to effectively have the same maths that you have, is that really what's going on here? Or is this more analogous to Mike Brown, with his Kiper draft book standing in for a real live scouting department? That's my impression.

LULZ. I have no idea how you ran across that shit-head, but this version is worse than the OBR's. I try to avoid it at all costs and am fairly successful since I generally only follow a couple of shitheels.

Call me crazy, but my board is Davis, Drummond, MKG, Robinson. I just don't see Robinson being anymore than a 15 and 8 player while playing average defense at best, Bow. Solid, but that is it. Very low floor though. I'll swing for the fences with Drummond and hope he develops. Self promotion!! espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6585/andre-drummondDetroits future front line looks tough. Too bad their front office is going to find a way to screw that up.
