You know who's not a giant pussy like all the Browns fans wringing their hands about trading with the Steelers?
Joe Banner.
“I prefer to trade within the division,” Banner said. “You don’t make a trade if you don’t think you’re winning. So if you’re winning a trade in your own division you’re even better than winning in another division."
Maybe people would prefer to have a FO that is shaking in their boots about making a trade that is an obvious win?

I also don't understand the "oh, they're throwing away 2013 by trading away 4th and 5th round picks! what a waste!"
Did everyone forget they were more active in FA than they have been in years? Was the Davone Bess acquisition for the 2016 season?

Sure, but you still can't tell me how The Cleveland Browns are good enough to not need mid-round depth.

*and projecting year/year NFL mid-round depth variances is fools gold.

I agree that it is silly to say they made a good move because next year's draft is better.
I feel like every year, in every sport (ok, just the NFL and NBA since that's what I watch) everyone says the draft is weak and next year will be better.
But I care only a little bit about a 4th round pick at this point and almost not at all about a 5th rounder. If they need some depth, there are plenty of veterans who can provide it still waiting for contracts. And they still have a crazy amount of cap space.

Thing is, good teams in the NFL make a practice of drafting mid-round talent and developing some % of it into real players.
I'm not bent they traded the pics, but I do find it a hugely confusing team building strategy.

OK, but it's not like they traded the picks for marginal vets. They turned them into better picks.

I'm as frustrated as anyone with the constant lose now/win later approach. But I don't see that with this regime, and certainly not with these 2 trades. Mid round picks are potential contributors 3 years from now, anyways.
They haven't purged the roster and haven't tried to replace players they don't need to. They have brought in FAs at positions of need to contribute right now. They are giving the young talent from the last regime a chance to prove itself.
The only real frustrating thing is the switch to the 34, but even that isn't that big of a deal. If they stayed in a 43, they still would have needed an edge rusher and some OLBs.

Thing is, good teams in the NFL make a practice of drafting mid-round talent and developing some % of it into real players. I'm not bent they traded the pics, but I do find it a hugely confusing team building strategy. Bah to this. Bah. They say it takes 3 years to evaluate a draft. Start at 2010, go back to 2006. Count the number of legitimate impact NFL-caliber players that aren't kickers or punters drafted after the 3rd round. I just did. I counted like 40. Out of about 800 drafted. And about half of those were running backs. Focus on the 4th round alone and it's like 20 out of 175. 4th round and beyond is where you get stop-gap guys and special teamers. Guys who one way or another will be out of the league in 3 years 90% of the time. Yeah, you can pick out 2 or 3 times as many guys if you want to count guys who hung around in the league or even started for a couple years or whatever. But nobody's pissed about trading away those picks because we could have got a guy who should be a backup, but will start out of necessity for a couple games. They all delude themselves into thinking we traded away one of the 2 or 3 legit NFLers who will likely come out of the draft, and not a pick that would be spent on a disposable special teamer, which is what inevitably is what was going to happen. The reality is that there's little difference between the crop of players available in picks 100-250 and the UFAs.

And as for the whole Steelers thing, if Pittsburgh is drafting a guy in the 4th round and counting on him to start for them, that says more about them than it does us.

Fair enough, but I'd consider developing back-up quality players from rounds 4 - 5 just as important.

Everyone, including me, hates Owen Marecic. I've hated him since the moment they drafted him. He is a GOOD outcome for a 4th rounder, in the sense he actually started some games.

This team can't even do an "inside the war room" feature with an outside journalist right.

32 teams, 30 days per month, 7+ months between end of regular season and start of next season, 7 rounds in the draft. DO IT ROGER.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice Roger dumping the draft in the middle of the NBA and NHL playoffs as well as up against early season baseball.
Nothing better than the NFL swinging it's dick to show how big it is.

How Cavs would it be to draft Len? I'd laff.

The only thing I know about this draft is that Jarvis Jones was the best defensive player I saw last year and ended up sliding down to the Steelers because of workouts. So... yeah... I expect him to be James Harrison II in a year, two max. Jarvis Jones was benched today. For Jason "War of the" Worilds. Meanwhile, Barkevious looks pretty good. <e0 bait>
