Midnight in Paris was pleasant, and predictably stunning looking. Followed the Allen pattern of one slightly surreal premise, half a dozen decent jokes, and all tied up at the end with a simple moral learned.
Michael Sheen did what he does - steal the movie without trying. Adrian Brody did what he does - try desperately to steal the movie and fail.
Owen Wilson did what every non-Woody Allen actor does in a Woody Allen movie; he played Woody Allen. Right down to Allen's trademark "2 sizes too large" khakis. Wilson seemed to have trouble adapting to that aspect of the wardrobe, and he spends most of the movie hiking his pants back up.
Was amused by the fact that this film speaks to Allen's pining for the golden age of Paris in the 20's, while there's a whole generation of artists out there now who if they were making this movie would pine for the golden age of New York in the 70's.
Summary - this isn't one of the Allen movies where you walk out and say "that guy is a genius." But you do leave saying "man that guy is a pro." Tight script, beautifully shot, and amusing performances. He made a good film here.

From just seeing the previews, I do like the "F white balance" aesthetic.
It can be a nice way to bring cohesion to messy color photography.

Agree that Super 8 had some charm. The alien was stupid looking and the ending fizzled. I expected more father-son stuff. Just left that empty....probably closer to real life as most father-son relationships are left empty but I digress. I too can't seem to hate Ryan Reynolds. Everything screams "another douche to hate" yet I don't. If he were to take a more dramatic turn, do something with Wes Anderson he might find his grown-up wheel house. But Green f@#$ing Lantern?!?!?!?! Bob? !?!?! Lastly, I do not need to rehash my Michael Bay Hate here.

<-- been waiting for "•Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian will be tested as soon as the Lakers trade him to Middle American team for salary-cap reasons."
Really excited about it actually.
