Also, just watching Chauncey ruin his bullshit legacy is going to make following the Clippers worthwhile.

It's a young man's league.
45+ white males find the NBA offensive because they, 45+ white males, hold certain prejudices. 45+ white males want their black athletes to be more restrained in their blackness. Too much blackness and 45+ white males get uncomfortable. The bonus with football is that so much of the athlete is covered up. Helmet and facemask help the 45+ white males pretend that athlete is white.
They'll never watch the NBA....unless Jimmer pulls a Tebow. They love Jimmer because they love college basketball because they love white players.

Doesn't matter, TV advertisers care about one demo and that is the demo the NBA is killing and growing in.

@tvsportsratings: Week of 12/19: NBA TV averages 84k viewers. Most since channel was first measured in November '10
For as much as people bitched about the lockout and for as much as people screamed "NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE NBA" every single measurable viewing standard is up this year.

No one cares about the NBA. However, it was the only semi-tolerable thing on tv on Christmas and it was on all day. I had the games on and the TV muted. I don't think I could tell you the outcome of any of them though, as not a single fuck was given.

In between football's heavy mouth breathers and basketball's elitist hipsters there is the smallest of spaces left for normal people. The ones who don't need to find deeper meaning to rationalize their sports preference.
Try and join us.

Men 18-34 ABC Christmas game...
5.3 share.
Entire 2011 World Series in the demo... 5.2 share.

There is no doubt I'm much farther in that direction, just not far or accomplished enough for the elitist aspect. Typical NFL fan is a low rent, low wage earning drunken brute. Wading through the set of Idiocracy every Sunday became something more then my love of the local team could withstand. Huh, maybe I have a bit of elitism...

NBA alienates its entire fanbase (maybe not) and baseball Fall Classic can't beat that number. LMAO That's where the money is made, gawd did the NBA blow it by negotiating a new long term TV deal during an economic low point.

Apparently more people don't care about the NBA enough to turn on the volume than last year, though.

Typical NFL fan is a low rent, low wage earning drunken brute. Typical NBA fan must have a lot more free time than Typical NFL fan, so I'm left to assume most of them must be unemployed. Or below employable age.

Real conversation last night at my family's Christmas gathering:
My 12 year old cousin from Indianapolis told me the Cavs should have taken Jimmer #1.
Me: No, just..... no
Him: Why not?
Me: You never take a white guy #1 in the NBA draft.
He stared at me like I just murdered Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Tim Tebow.
I fucking hate middle America.
I'm pretty sure I emotionally scarred him for life.

Men 18-34 ABC Christmas game... 5.3 share. Entire 2011 World Series in the demo... 5.2 share. These things happen when you don't rig your league so your biggest markets play each other for the championship every GD year

And you play your games in primetime against other stations' regularly scheduled fall lineups, rather than on a day when eveybody is stuck in the house with annoying kids and old people with nothing at all on any other station in the known universe.

NBA on TNT, running on Thursday nights during primetime, had it's highest rated year in a decade last year.
HA
And that doesn't even touch on the Finals crushing beisbol.

As I said, you force the Yankees or Red Sox to play the Phillies in the World Series every year, you get big ratings. You let other teams have an actual chance to win, your ratings suffer.
Also, it's cute that TNT's basketball coverage did better than TNT's previous basketball coverage. TNT's basketball coverage should be proud of itself.

I will say that I can see, from last game and so far in this one, that Irving is a real PG even if he doesn't have the overwhelming physical traits of guys like Wall or Rose.
I would just like to see the outside shooting, and I'll be convinced he is going to be special.
