NYG's ability to hang with and even beat the elite teams over the years is entirely predicated on how important QB play has become.
They always have a killer d-line and get tons of pressure from their base defense.
In the modern NFL, you better have a stellar QB; failing that, you better be able to get to the QB without blitzing so that you neutralize the advantage other elite teams might have. Hence why I would be fine with us taking a QB or getting an elite edge rusher.

I agree, but another common thread between their victory on Sunday and their run in 2007 is their ability to control the game on offense running the football.

The Gints have been a pretty shitty running team all year and are a classic "pass sets up the run" due to Nicks and Cruz scaring the fuck out of offenses.

That isn't what they were on Sunday.
Also, aoxo, you can flip that advantage on D to the secondary too. The Jets have done a really good job pressuring QBs in recent years, because they had Revis (+Cromartie in 2010) backing them up, freeing up blizters. (Read: Claiborne!)

Maybe.
But Revis is a once in a generation type player. Best corner since Deion. Maybe better, since he can play physically too. I don't know.
If the Giants defense stopped performing once Strahan retired, I would agree.

RGIII or trade down. Maybe they can get SD or NYJ to bite on a Jones-like trade for Blackmon? Those are the only teams I can imagine doing it.
SD getting old and desperate, NYJ because they've got to get rid of Holmes and do something to address the offense.

Getting that deal was a gift from the football gods. Sane people don't deal that much to move up for a WR.
So yeah, maybe the Jets!
Though, I actually see someone dealing up for Richardson as slightly more likely.
But if we don't like RG3, I see no reason why we couldn't be the team someone else deals up with to get him.

I agree it was a gift.
Unfortunate the Falcons lost in the first round again, because if they had gotten to the NFC championship everyone and their mother would have said it was because of JULIO.
People were praising that trade all year and talking about great JULIO is.
Maybe that would have been enough for another team to justify pulling a similar move.

NFL Draft Thought of the Day!
Late round WR prospects. There are several that I like this year: Joe Adams (projected as a 4th-5th rounder by NFLDS), Ryan Broyles (5th rounder), Marquis Maze (5th-6th rounder), LaVon Brazill (7th rounder, though soley because of his name & university affiliation), and if his physical suggests he could return to pre-injury Jr-year form, Greg Childs (UFA).
Pot = stirred.

NFL Draft Thought of the Day!
I like Trent Richardson. Not enough to take him in the Top 10, BUT WHAT IF HE SLIDES!??!?! Tampa Bay seems to have become a popular "We think Trent Richardson is really good so we'll just stick him here" slot, but if Richardson could make it past Tampa Bay at 5 and then Washington at 6, things could get slippery!
7. JAX--already have BWWYYYY RICHARDSON COMP MJD, no need 8. CAR--already have Williams & Stewart 9. MIA--Bush just had a good season, they just drafted Thomas(?) in the 2nd round 10. BUF--have already used a kagillion high picks on RBs, already have Jackson & Spiller. 11. KC--Richardson could be a nice power complement to Charles, but...they already have Charles 12. SEA--we'll see if they resign Lynch 13. ARZ--also have recently used a kagillion high picks on RBs 14. DAL--Murray & Jones 15. PHI--McCoy 16. NYJ--I imagine they'd happily take Richardson here 17. CIN--I imagine they'd happily take Richardson here...especially if they don't re-sign Benson
Picks #22 & 68 on the Holy Value Chart add up to 1030pts, compared to 1050pts for Pick #15. <--Possible Heckert-friendly affordable jump.

I'm pretty shocked that happened now, although I guess it kind of makes sense. Redskins would give up more now to get him, since otherwise they would maybe have to sign a FA QB.
Can't say I'm sad Browns didn't give up that much. What a haul.

The Browns were not going to outbid Snyder. He made up his mind that he wanted RG3 and would have dumped whatever it took to get him. Period.
The pity party that some people are throwing about this is stupid and just shows how idiotic this fanbase really is.
At the minimum to outbid the Redskins it would have taken 5 picks in the first or second round.
Five.
For a team that is as talent deprived as the Browns that would be suicide, franchise QB be damned. And it will be suicide for Washington too, they don't have much more, if anymore, talent than the Browns.
Completely idiotic to get worked up over "missing out" on RG3 for this price. Not that anyone on this board is.

Unless the Browns were giving up 4 1's and 3 2's, they weren't outbidding the Redskins.
How can people get so worked up by losing out to a guy whose entire history is one of overreaction and overpaying?
Everyone has been lampooning Snyder for a decade, but it's now completely clear to me (and maybe I was just in denial before) that he is actually methodical and under control compared to what the average fan would do if put in charge.
